Is there a recommendation system planned? Perhaps something like showing the hottest content from the last 24 hours, based on the user's recently viewed tags?

I just discovered that a 'filter' plugin feature is coming soon. Would it be appropriate to classify the simple recommendation system I mentioned earlier—such as showing the hottest content from the last 24 hours based on the user's recently viewed tags—as a scheduled cron task for the filter? Or would that be an inappropriate use of the upcoming feature?
